I have always been a fan of snacking on nuts, peanuts, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, and of course pecans. And one of my favorite snacks or treats is this candied pecans recipe. They are so incredibly delicious and rather addicting.
This easy candied pecans recipe is perfect for Christmas and the Holidays or any time of the year. Eat them as a snack as is, or put them on top of salads, vanilla ice cream, or whatever you like.
Also known as glazed pecans, sugared pecans, or caramelized pecans, whatever you want to call them, they are tasty! And incredibly simple to make, if I can do it, you can do it. Let’s get baking!
Step 1: Gather the ingredients
In order to make these yummy candied pecans you need just a handful of easy to find ingredients. Most of which you may already have at home:
- White granulated sugar
- Brown sugar – Light or dark
- Ground cinnamon
- Salt
- Egg white
- Pecan halves – You can’t make candied pecans without pecans! Although, you can use any other nuts as well, like walnuts, cashews, peanuts.
Tools
- Bowls
- Whisk
- Spatula
- Sheet pan
- Silicone baking mat or parchment paper
Step 2: How to make candied pecans at home
Preheat the oven to 275 F/135 C.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the white granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. If you don’t have brown sugar you can use all white sugar.
Time to make the sugar paste or candy coating. Add the egg white from one large egg into a large bowl and whisk until nice and frothy. You can save the egg yolk and use it in another dish like an omelet or egg custard or maybe you need an extra yolk for this lemon curd.
Then add the sugar mixture to the frothy egg white. Melt the butter in the microwave or in a pot on the stovetop just until barely melted and not hot. Pour that into the mixture and whisk well until you get a sugary paste.
Now add the pecans to the sugar paste and with a spatula fold and mix until well coated.
If you like you can add even more pecans, just depends on how much you want them to be candied. 2 1/2 cups to 3 cups of pecans works great, but you could add even more if you wanted, like up to 4 cups, for less coating. Which would make them a little more “healthy” haha.
Step 3: Bake the candied pecans
Take a sheet pan and line it with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Then spread out the pecan mixture into an even 1 layer.
Bake in the oven for 10 to 12 minutes.
After 10 to 12 minutes, remove the pan and then stir and flip the pecans. Spread them out again, and then back in the oven. Repeat 3 more times, for a total of 40 to 45 minutes of baking. Keep an eye on them so they don’t burn.
Remove them from the oven the final time and allow them to cool to room temperature. It will take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.
The candy coating should be crunchy, and the pecans will be roasted. Pretty awesome right?
After they have cooled it is time to serve them.
Put them in a nice serving bowl or in little individual packages for gifts, whatever you like. Or maybe you want to place some on a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream? Or maybe on top of an amazing homemade banana split? These are so addicting, I bet you can’t just eat one of them!
There you go, that is how you make incredible candied pecans. Enjoy!
How long do homemade candied pecans last?
Store them at room temperature in a ziplock bag or an airtight container for about a week or two. But most likely they won’t last that long, they are that good! If you would like to store them longer, keep them in the fridge for 3 to 4 weeks.

Might want to remove or modify the Nutritional Facts (or Fiction!?)…shows 0 cholesterol…..but not with butter. That said, if you’re eating these, who cares!!
Thank you, Doug! I need to modify it, I noticed when I first published the recipe I forgot to add the 1/4 cup of butter to the list of ingredients, in turn, I forgot to update the nutritional facts. I will definitely update it. 🙂 Yes, there is definitely cholesterol in them haha. Good catch!
