Tools/Equipment:

  • Piping Bag
  • Toothpicks, optional
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Paper towels

How to make Christmas Gnomes brownie bites

Several strawberries with their stems cut off sitting on a piece of paper towel.

If you are not going to use store-bought brownie bites, begin by baking your brownies. I really like this fudgy brownie recipe or this classic brownie recipe. Just make sure to bake them in a mini-muffin pan, so you can make brownie bites out of them.

Next, rinse and dry all of the strawberries. Then slice off the green stems. Make sure to make the cut as flat as possible, so it will sit better on top of the brownie bite.

White frosting on top of a brownie bite with a strawberry on top of that.

Add frosting to the top of the brownie bite and then place a strawberry cut side down to form the Gnome’s hat.

Now add some frosting in front to form the beard. And place a red hot, cocoa puff, or Reese’s puff to form the nose. If you want to add candy eyes you can do that too, instead of having the “hat over the eyes” look.

TIP: If the strawberry keeps sliding off the frosting insert a toothpick to keep it in place. Just make sure to let anyone eating them know there is a toothpick in there.

Serve and enjoy!

How long do the Christmas gnomes last?

They will last a few days. You can store them at room temp for a day or in the fridge for a couple of days. After that the strawberry starts to break down and juice goes everywhere and kinda makes a mess. They are best when served within an hour or two of making them.

Notes

NOTE: If you plan on making the brownies from scratch, make sure the brownies have cooled completely before assembling the gnomes. If needed chill them in the fridge for a bit first.
TIP: If the strawberry keeps sliding off the brownie, you can use a toothpick to keep them in place, just let your guests know if there is a toothpick in there.

These look so fun! I’m not much of a skilled baker, but these look fairly easy to make! I’m definitely going to give these a try!
