Learn how to make cottage cheese cookies with chocolate chips in them. This is a little different cookie than a classic homemade chocolate chip cookie. They are less sweet and fluffier and have more protein in them. If you are looking for something to make with that container of cottage cheese you seem to be avoiding in your fridge then make this awesome chocolate chip cottage cheese cookie recipe.

Ingredients

several cookie dough ingredients in bowls on a wooden cutting board.

To make this easy cookie recipe you need a handful of simple everyday ingredients:

  • Flour – Use normal all-purpose flour also known as plain flour.
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Butter – I always use unsalted butter but you can use salted butter too. If you do, just reduce the amount of added salt in half.
  • Brown sugar – Light or dark brown sugar will work.
  • White sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Egg
  • Cottage cheese – I use the 4% whole milk big chunk cottage cheese. Remember to blend it first!
  • Chocolate chips – I love using milk chocolate chips, but dark chocolate chips and semi-sweet chocolate chips work great too.
  • Nuts – If you like nuts in your cookies you can add chopped walnuts or pecans if you like.

hand whisking flour, salt, and baking soda in a medium glass bowl.

Begin by preheating the oven to 350°F or 176°C. Add the cottage cheese to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Technically, you can use the cottage cheese unblended, but you will get little chunks of the cheese in your cookies.

Add the flour, salt, and baking soda to a medium bowl and whisk until combined. Or if you like, sift those ingredients together into the bowl.

Use a cookie scoop or two spoons and spoon out around a heaping tablespoon of cookie dough and place it on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Space the cookies about 2 inches apart. You should be able to get 12 cookies on a standard size baking sheet or cooking sheet.

They will last about a week at room temperature in an airtight container and about 2 weeks in the fridge. After that, they should be frozen. Once frozen, they will last a few months.

Sure! Just use a standard 1:1 gluten-free flour mix in place of the all-purpose flour if you want to make them gluten-free.

  1. Hello
Do you think using half whole wheat flour would be okay. Would they still turn out.

  2. 5 stars
Again, a great cookie recipe from Matt!
Soft enough to be somewhat cake-like with just the right amount of outer firmness.
In addition, I love the clarity of each recipe step.
    Double thumbs up! : -)
