Learn how to elevate your box mix brownies with one ingredient and bring them to a whole new level. I love brownies! But I don’t always want to make them from scratch; sometimes I am just too busy, so it is nice to have a box mix or two handy in the pantry. After trying this simple method, you will never want to make box mix brownies any other way.

Ingredients

Brownie mix and a few other ingredients on a white counter.

To make box mix brownies even better all you need are a few simple ingredients. You won’t be following the instructions on the back of the box or the ingredients listed there, except for the eggs:

  • Your favorite brownie mix
  • Eggs
  • Sweetened condensed milk

Equipment/Tools

  • Large bowl
  • 8×8 to 13×9 baking pan
  • Parchment paper, optional
  • Sturdy spoon
  • Mixer is optional

How to elevate your box mix brownies with this ingredient

Large bowl with eggs and sweetened condensed milk mixed together

Preheat the oven to 325°F or 162°C.

Add the eggs and the sweetened condensed milk to a large bowl and mix until well combined.

Pouring brownie batter into a pan lined with parchment paper

Now add the brownie box mix dry ingredients, about half of it at a time, and mix until well incorporated. If you would like to add chocolate chips of nuts, you can do so now.

Pour the brownie batter into an 8×8-inch pan that is lined with parchment paper or sprayed with cooking spray. If you want thinner brownies, use a larger pan, up to a 13×9-inch pan. Spread the batter evenly. Then bake for 45 to 55 minutes until a toothpick comes out nearly clean.

Allow the baked brownies to cool for about 30 minutes, then you can cut them into squares. A little trick to cutting the brownies easily is to use a plastic serrated knife. Enjoy!

Can I substitute the eggs?

Yes, you can. If you don’t want to use eggs, try using 1/2 cup of applesauce.

How long do box mix brownies last?

They will last up to a week if stored in an airtight container. Freeze them after that.
