I am a huge fan of cobblers. I love chocolate cobbler and peach cobbler, and of course, I love this amazing and super-easy-to-make apple cobbler. I may even like it more than pie and cake, yup, I said it, haha. It is the perfect fall dessert, but I make it any time of the year. Let’s get started!
Ingredients

To make apple cobbler at home, you need just a handful of simple ingredients. Most of which you may already have at home:
- Butter – You may use salted or unsalted butter. I normally use unsalted.
- Flour – All-purpose flour or also known as regular flour. You can also use self-rising flour; if you do, don’t use baking powder, and only add a little bit of the salt.
- Sugar – White granulated sugar or you can also use brown sugar if desired.
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Cinnamon – This is optional
- Nutmeg – This is optional
- Milk – I normally use whole milk, but pretty much any milk will work, and any non-dairy milk will work too.
- Vanilla Extract – Optional, but a big flavor enhancer.
- Can of Apple pie filling – You can also do it from scratch. I will leave instructions below on how to do that.
All the amounts for the ingredients will be listed below in the printable recipe card. Click the “jump to recipe” above or keep scrolling to find it.

Equipment/Tools
- 7×11-inch baking pan or use an 8×8-inch pan. 8×11 will work too. You can use a glass casserole dish too as long as it is oven safe.
- Medium bowl or large bowl
- Whisk
- Spatula
How to make Apple Cobbler at home in about an hour

Add your butter to the middle of the baking pan and then place the baking pan in the oven on the middle rack position. Then preheat the oven to 375°F or 190C. As the oven preheats, the butter will melt. Meanwhile you can make the apple cobbler batter.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg, so pretty much all the dry ingredients. Then add the milk and vanilla extract to the flour mixture and mix until well combined. And just like that, the batter is ready.
Now you just need to wait for that oven to preheat.
NOTE: You may use self-rising flour. If you do, just don’t add the baking powder and use only about a half of the amount of salt that is called for.

Once the oven is preheated, use oven mitts to remove the baking dish. Then pour all the batter in the pan on top of the melted butter. Do not stir it in. Just gently spread it out evenly. Now open your can of apple filling and spread that out evenly on top of the batter.
Bake the apple cobbler in the oven again at 375°F or 190°C for 30 to 40 minutes until the top is golden brown.

Remove the cobbler and allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving. You can eat it as is or serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. etc.

There you go! It is super easy, right? Enjoy!
How long does homemade apple cobbler last?
Store the cobbler in an airtight container or cover the pan with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and keep it in the fridge for 2 to 3 days. It can also be frozen.
Can I use fresh apples instead of canned pie filling?
Yes! You sure can. Rinse 3 to 4 medium tart apples and peel them if desired. I like to use Granny Smith apples. Next, cut them up into small chunks or thin slices. Place the apple slices in a large pot with about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of white sugar. Add a couple of tsp of lemon juice. Using medium heat to medium-low heat, cook the apples until they are soft. Make sure to stir periodically. Use in place of the apple pie filling. You may also try using them raw as is, but they may not get as soft as you like when baked.
