Calling all chocolate lovers! Time to learn how to make an amazing homemade chocolate cobbler. This recipe goes by many names, a couple of other names for it are Chocolate Sundae Cake and Hot Fudge Sundae Cake, with Chocolate cobbler probably being the most common. It is a popular recipe in the Southern United States.

This easy recipe is full of chocolate flavor, and it is very rich and indulgent. Not something you want to eat every day…or do you? Haha. Let’s get started!

Ingredients

Several ingredients in bowls on a wooden cutting board.

To make chocolate cobbler from scratch, you need several simple ingredients:

  • Butter – I always use unsalted butter, but salted butter can be used as well.
  • Cocoa powder – Make sure to use unsweetened cocoa powder, the kind that is used in baking.
  • Brown Sugar
  • White Sugar
  • Flour – Use all-purpose flour, or you can use self-rising flour, and if you do that, don’t add any baking powder and only a bit of salt.
  • Baking powder – The main leavening agent, since this recipe doesn’t have any eggs in it.
  • Salt
  • Milk – I normally use whole milk, but any milk will work, including something like almond milk.
  • Vanilla extract – The ultimate flavor enhancer and booster.
  • Chocolate Chips – I usually use semi-sweet chocolate chips, but you can use milk chocolate or dark chocolate; it just depends on what kind of chocolate sauce you want.
  • Boiling water – You could also try using hot brewed coffee, which can bring out even more chocolate flavor. If you can’t boil water just use hot water.
