In this cooking basics recipe, you will learn how to make poached eggs in an air fryer using two different methods. Poaching eggs is pretty simple and generally done in a pot of boiling water on the stovetop burner or you can make perfect poached eggs in the microwave. With that said you can also poach eggs in an air fryer! It turns out really well.
Keep in mind I don’t necessarily think this is the best way to make poached eggs but if your burner isn’t working or you don’t even have an oven/stove or you want to save a bit on energy costs this is the way to go. Let’s get started!
Ingredients

In order to make air fryer poached eggs you need a few simple ingredients and tools:
- 2 eggs – you can certainly do more, I think my air fryer holds 4 ramekins, or you can do about 6 eggs in the little pot.
- 2/3 cup of water – 1/3 cup of water per ramekin (if using 6 oz ramekins), or about 4 cups in a small pot
- 1/2 tsp of vinegar – 1/4 tsp per ramekin (or around 2 total tsp for the pot method)
- 1 to 2 tsp of olive oil (1 tsp per ramekin) (no oil is required for the pot method)

How to make poached eggs in an air fry using ramekins

The first method I will show you involves poaching eggs in ramekins. I use 6 oz ramekins for this, although you can use smaller ones as well, or larger ones. Add some olive oil to each ramekin, and make sure it gets on the bottom and sides, this will help keep the eggs from sticking.

Next, add the vinegar to each ramekin as well as one egg per ramekin. The vinegar helps to keep the egg whites together but isn’t necessary.

Add the ramekins with the eggs into the basket of your air fryer. Place the basket in the air fryer.
NOTE: You may want to preheat the air fryer first.

Set the mode to air fry and the temperature to 375F or 190C. Air fry the eggs for 7 to 10 minutes depending on how you like the yolks in your poached eggs.

Now just let the air fryer do its thing and poach those eggs. Once done, use a slotted spoon and gently remove the poached egg from each ramekin. It may stick a little bit, but that is normal. Season and serve!
Method 2: Air fryer poached eggs using a small pot

Now for the next method, which is very similar to how eggs are poached in boiling water in a pot on a burner. Add an oven safe pot to the air fryer basket and pour enough water in it to make it about 2/3 of the away full. It should be around 2 inches deep to 2 1/2 inches deep.
TIP: Adding hot water (the hottest your tap will go) will make it go a little faster.
Place the basket in the air fryer and air fry at 375F/190C for around 7 to 8 minutes.

Crack the egg and put it in the hot boiling water. Replace the basket and cook it for 3 to 6 minutes depending on how you like your poached eggs, for a firmer yolk you will want to go 5 to 6 minutes. The runnier yolk will require less time.

Once the egg is cooked, use a slotted spoon to pull it out. It shouldn’t stick to the side or bottom of the pot because there is plenty of water for it to float around in.

Now the only thing left to do is to season those eggs with salt and pepper and whatever else you want then serve them. Enjoy!
Let me know in the comments which method you like better the ramekin method or the pot method.
How many eggs can I poach at once?
It depends entirely on the size of your air fryer basket. In my air fryer, I can do 4 total 6-ounce ramekins and in my pot which is 3 inches deep and 7 inches in diameter, I can do about 6 eggs at once.
Which method is best?
I think the microwave method or the classic stovetop burner method is the best, however out of these two options I like the small pot version better because the eggs don’t stick at all, like they can in the ramekins.
Recipe Tips
The amount of time it takes to poach eggs in the air fryer will depend on the air fryer model, the size of the egg, and the size of the ramekins or the pot of water. The cooking time will vary so you will just need to experiment a little to get it exactly how you like it.
How long do air fryer poached eggs last?
They are best eaten fresh right after they are prepared. However, if you do wind up having leftovers, they will last up to two days in the fridge in an airtight container.
