As a kid, one of the first things I learned how to cook was scrambled eggs. It is a dish that everyone should know how to make. Here are some tips for making your scrambled eggs perfect every time you cook them.

Ingredients

whole eggs in a glass bowl next to a bowl of avocado oil and salt and pepper

To make scrambled eggs at home, you need just a few simple ingredients and tools:

  • Eggs
  • Water or Milk – Water or milk is optional, but when added, they tend to make the finished scrambled eggs fluffier.
  • Oil or butter – I like to use avocado oil or sometimes butter or bacon grease. But you can use whatever oil or fat you like, such as olive oil, coconut oil, canola oil, vegetable oil, beef tallow, etc.
  • Salt and pepper

Tools/Equipment

  • Good nonstick pan. I love my GreenPan. (Affiliate link)
  • Spatula/turner
  • Fork or whisk
  • Bowl

How to Make Perfect Scrambled Eggs Every Time at Home

Hand mixing eggs in a bowl

Begin by getting your skillet on the burner and setting the heat to Medium. The pan should be hot before cooking the eggs.

Add the eggs to a bowl along with the water or milk if you decide to use that and mix with a fork or whisk for about 20 to 30 seconds.

Skillet on a black electric burner with a bit of avocado oil in it.

Add the oil of choice, in this case avocado oil, and then, once the pan is hot, add the eggs.

The technique I use is to wait a few seconds, then pull the egg from the edges to the center, and then chop down with the spatula.

Hand with a black turner scrambling eggs in a grey nonstick skillet on a black glass top burner.

Keep repeating until you get the eggs cooked the way you like them. I prefer my eggs to be on the drier side, so once there is no longer any glistening of egg, the scrambled eggs are ready. If you like yours on the wetter side, remove them when there is still some glistening to them.

NOTE: Keep in mind that when you take the eggs off the burner, there will still be a little bit of residual cooking.

Now put the homemade scrambled eggs on a plate and season with salt and pepper to your taste.

NOTE: You can also season the eggs right after cracking them into the bowl. However, do NOT let them sit very long before cooking; the salt can make the eggs rubbery and too dry once cooked.

Enjoy!
