I am not going to lie, fruit is my jam, I love fruit, and one of my favorite fruits to eat is guavas or Guayaba. There are many varieties of guava in the world, and in this tropical fruit review, I will be sharing all about the watermelon guava, where it comes from and grows, its health benefits, how to eat it, and what it tastes like. If you like the white guava, you will love this one even more! Let’s get on with the information.
Where does the watermelon guava come from, and where does it grow?

The watermelon guava is one of the pink guava varieties and is native to Southern Mexico and through Central America, but it grows and is cultivated in many tropical and subtropical regions around the world, including India, Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, South Florida, and Hawaii. Hobbyists can even grow it here in Phoenix, Arizona, where I live. Wherever the guavas are grown, you can grow this one as well.
The tree can grow up to around 20 feet tall. They can also be trimmed to be more of a bush and grown in containers if you have limited space.
You may or may not be able to buy this particular variety where you live. I purchased mine at Miami Fruit. They did not sponsor this post, but you can get 10% off with this code: MATTTAY10

How to Eat Watermelon Guava

To determine if the watermelon guava is ripe, it should be round and large, and completely green with a few brown spots on it. There will also be a little give to it.
There are a variety of ways that you can eat this fruit. You can eat it like an apple if you want. Rinse the fruit first, then just bite into it. The skin and the small yellow seeds are edible, some people will spit out the seeds. You can also just slice it into wedges or chunks, etc.
People will slice it and put it in fruit salads, make jam and jelly with it, put it in baked goods, make a fruit sauce with it, put it in drinks, etc. A lot of people just eat them plain as well.
What does the watermelon guava taste like?

If you love guavas in general, I think you will really love this one. It has a similar flavor profile to other guavas. If you have never tried a guava, this variety is definitely one to try. It is soft but slightly crunchy and very easy to eat. It is juicy but not extremely juicy, the texture is a little firm, with a hint of strawberry and fresh watermelon for the taste. There is also a pleasant floral aroma to the fruit.
Have you ever tried this particular variety of guava or goiaba, guayaba, amrood, and bayabas? Let me know if you like it or not.
