Bring a large pot, halfway full of water, to boil. Add in the salt. Then add in the 12 sheets of lasagna pasta. Let it boil for 6 minutes. Drain the pasta and rinse with cold water. Keep the pasta in a bowl or pot of cold water or lay it out on a pan sprayed with cooking spray. Both methods will keep it from sticking.
While the pasta is boiling, cook the sausage or ground beef. Use a large skillet with the burner temp set to medium. Cook the sausage for 6 to 8 minutes until evenly browned and there is no pink. Drain any excess oil/grease in the pan. Transfer the cooked meat to a large bowl.
Combine the sauce with the meat and then add in the cottage cheese and mix together.
Preheat the oven to 350 F/176 C. Add a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the pan. Then add 4 sheets of lasagna pasta. Add a layer of mozzarella cheese, then a layer of meat sauce. Repeat with the pasta, cheese, and meat sauce, and then the final layer of pasta. This time add the meat sauce first on top of the pasta, and then the cheese on top.
Cover the lasagna with aluminum foil which has been sprayed with cooking spray. Bake it for 30 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes, until the cheese on top is fully melted.
Allow the lasagna to cool for 15 to 20 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
